I remember when I was younger that I really liked the first two Madagascar films. But then again when you are a kid you like basically every movie you watch. When I heard that there was going to be a another film, I got excited and had very high hopes for Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.
I always liked Ben Stiller. Sure he has done some pretty bad movies, but he is always funny. My favourite performance of his is easily as Alex in this series. Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith are all great too. These four actors must get along incredibly well as their relationship in this film really comes through. It is always nice when Sacha Baron Cohen is in an appropriate role. Frances McDormand was great as the seemingly invincible Captain Chantel DuBois. There were no weak performances in this film.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted is easily the best written of the three. Though a lot of the humour was target at kids, which I still found funny, there was a lot of humour that only the adults or older teenagers would get and laugh about. This is a huge improvement as the humour in the first and second films was very recycled from other movies. The story and its themes were also quite a bit better, even though they were similar to a lot of other family films. I think Noah Baumbach really helped Eric Darnell create a better script than the writers who assisted him on the other movies did.
This movie looked really good, plain and simple. The team behind the CGI at Dreamworks did a magnificent job creating this world for us all to see. From banana machine guns to a tiger jumping through hoops the size of finger rings, this film has it all. I just wish I had access to a 3D TV as were so many scenes that I could just tell would look great on the format.
Overall, I really enjoyed Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. It has jokes for the whole family, has a great cast, and is just a whole lot of fun like most animated movies are. It is easily my favourite of the series so far. I would recommend anyone who enjoys the first two films, wants a laugh, or needs something to watch with the family to check this one out.
